Nokia Lumia 925 Review

Nokia has introduced a successor to their Nokia Lumia 920 within no time, it’s the Lumia 925. It has come out in relatively less time. But has anything changed? Surely, tons. We know Nokia Lumia 920 for its camera and the body and the colours more than we know it for Windows Phone 8. So Nokia came out with basic improvements upon the following. They had it in mind that not everyone would prefer a bulky 920 and with new competition up in the camera arena by HTC ONE and Samsung Galaxy S4, they knew they were up for a big fight. They came up high on the camera improvements and the basic design and weight of the phone.

Design
Remember how was Nokia Lumia 920? Beautifully curved at the back with the amazing polycarbonate? Nokia Lumia 925 is nothing like that. They have tried to take the fact in mind that people like the aluminium design too, giving them an option of a WP8 with an aluminium finish with a high quality polycarbonate back which is totally flat. The edges are made of aluminium and the back out of high quality polycarbonate. This polycarbonate beats the one Samsung Galaxy S4 for a home run! That is how amazing it feels. The phone is squarish with slightly lifted edges rather than being curved on the corners. It looks better than the 920, well personal opinion. With dimensions 129 x 70.6 x 8.5 mm, 78 cc it is so much thinner than Nokia Lumia 920 and weighing at just 139 grams so much lighter than it too! Hard to believe they achieved this just after 5 months of international release of the Nokia Lumia 920 all around the world. For those who loved the colours on the phone I am sorry for the disappointment there are only 3 here and they are plain- Black, White and Silver.

Display
There is no flagship phone from any brand worth being considered as a front runner if you do not have a stunningly beautiful display. They have improved upon the display too, they now use an OLED screen rather than the general LCD which gives real colours, deeper black and along with Nokia’s clear black technology it visually looks wonderful to the eye. The screen size has remained the same- 4.5inches with the same pixel density and resolution at 332ppi and 768×1280 pixels respectively but because of the change from LCD to OLED there is noticeable difference. Nokia calls it the 4.5 inch OLED Pure Motion HD+ Clear Black display, sounds fancy huh? Certainly looks fancy too. Like the 720, 820 and 920 the Nokia Lumia 925 also has a super sensitive screen allowing you to use it form your gloves or even finger nails.

Camera
What’s the point of buying a Nokia Lumia 925 if not for the camera? Nokia works very hard in their camera engineering and software that integrates to give us one of the best camera experiences we found in Nokia Lumia 920. Lens on the 925 is also by Carl Zeiss optics with a 6th glass lens. Nokia says it will give more clarity to the daylight photographs. It is incredible to see what they are achieving. The most important new feature they have introduced is the Smart Camera App that allows you to edit the action shots, choose best face and so much more than what Nokia Lumia 920 was capable of. The daylight photographs have improved and there is so much less noise in the night photographs when you compare it to the one from 920. Unlike on the S4 we do not need to choose the mode of the camera and have freedom to edit after the shoot than select the mode before for better results.
The lens is capable of capturing photographs of 8.7MP in 3264 x 2448 pixels. You get the usual image stabilisation, auto focus, image editor and dual flash. Primary camera is capable of recording full HD 1080p video while the 1.3MP front camera records video in 720p. The pure view technology has taken it par in the best camera smartphone race.

Memory and Data
No change here, it follows everything from the Nokia Lumia 920. It comes with optional 16 or 32GB of storage though. Nokia Lumia 920 only had 32GB models. Like the 920, you do not get a microSD card slot to expand that memory. You have 1GB of primary memory though we were hoping they gave us a 2GB RAM in this point in the year with HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 carrying 2GB of RAM. Support of NFC, Bluetooth v3.0 to move your files on the go to somewhere close to you. It supports dual band WLAN networks. The phone can work on 4G LTE networks along with 3G, GPRS and EDGE. The phone also comes with Qi wireless charging. You also get 7GB free storage in Sky Drive courtesy Microsoft.

Performance and Software
Powered by Windows Phone 8, it keeps itself aside from the competition for people who can distinctly recognize the type of OS they want for their mobile. Since the launch of the Lumia 820 and 920 the market of WP8 has grown fast and big. You have almost all the basic applications that you need. With a 1.5 Dual Core Snapdragon processor and 1GB RAM you get to the best of app experience. It won’t bore you because of the similarity of iOS and Android where developers don’t tweak much between the 2 versions. The games available on this platform and unique, it has best of both worlds – Android/iOS and Windows Phone 8 itself having games being bought from their world to WP8 and the original games meant for WP8.
It’s really cool. With the new apps that support the camera, music and navigation developed by Nokia you are welcomed in a different class itself. The apps run so smooth and the UI on every app is so beautiful, blows your mind. I have personally loved what Microsoft has been able to do with Windows Phone 8. Final Thoughts
People around the world who have loved their Lumias will just feel deeper in love with the Nokia Lumia 925. I wont consider an upgrade from 920 to 925 until you are getting a good deal for your 920 or either too curios for what has been done on the camera front. The 925 will bring you crisp display, beautiful sounds and amazing video quality. Its just state of the art device you can get, classy and powerful. It is not a huge jump overall from 920 to 925 but certainly worth noticing.
